Both the Pittsburgh Pirates (34-32) and Los Angeles Dodgers (42-24) had a day off before the two set sail for a three-game series at PNC Park. The headliner in the series opener, Paul Skenes' arm versus Shohei Ohtani's bat, naturally.
The Dodgers are coming off a 13-5 loss to the Angels in their previous game, but won the series 2-1. Los Angeles traveled across the country on their off day for their second trip to the Eastern Time Zone this season. Los Angeles went 5-1 with a sweep over Washington and two out of three against Toronto. Over the last seven days, Ohtani is hitting .480 and in the past 30 days, he's still batting an absurd .374.
Pittsburgh has lost four straight starts with Skenes on the mound and they are 5-7 in his 12 starts. Skenes has a 4.18 ERA over his last five starts and an opponent batting average of .252. the Pirates enter this matchup with three straight losses all coming to the Braves. That series marked the third time being swept this season for the Buccos. The Pirates have won three straight versus the Dodgers and took four out of six last season.
Let’s dive into the matchup and find a sweat or two.

The 48-team World Cup doesn’t just expand the map — it blows up the usual old bets. Forget the old guard for a second; the real magic of this edition lies in the national teams that will step onto football’s biggest stage for the first time in their history. They’re not here for the ride; they’ve earned their ticket the hard way, reshaping the global football ecosystem and bringing the fresh air this tournament desperately needed.
The “White Wolves” shattered their historic curse in the AFC’s third round. Their qualification was sealed mathematically after an utterly relentless campaign in Group A, securing the second automatic spot behind Iran. The key was their robotic consistency: an unreadable defensive block that barely conceded goals, and ruthless efficiency in Tashkent that saw them drop not a single vital point against direct rivals.
Jordan’s run was pure epic and belief. After emerging as Asia’s surprise package, they proved it was no mirage in a chaotic qualifying group. Their ticket was punched thanks to a perfect matchday: they smashed Oman 3-0 away from home while their direct rivals stumbled. With vertical football, lightning-fast transitions, and fearless attacking intent, they locked down second place in Group B and sent Amman into madness.
The “Blue Sharks” pulled off one of the greatest feats in modern African football in CAF Group D. They weren’t intimidated by running into a giant and World Cup regular like Cameroon; quite the opposite, they stood up to them, stole key points, and physically overpowered the rest of the group with tactical rigor. They were crowned undisputed champions of their section, playing elite-level combination football.
An absolute Caribbean fairy tale in CONCACAF. The island nation didn’t just take advantage of the absence of the three North American giants (automatically qualified as hosts) — it executed a master plan in recruitment and tactics. Combining the talent of players developed in Europe’s top academies with an ultra-disciplined unit, they became the giant-killers of their confederation, proving that even with 150,000 inhabitants, you can break football’s Matrix.

The FIFA World Cup is almost here. With kick-off fast approaching, Playmaker is taking a closer look at all 48 participating nations across 12 articles - one for each group in the tournament. From likely starting XIs to the key players to watch, we've got everything you need to know ahead of the biggest competition in world football.
Our World Cup group-by-group preview continues with Group B. It may not be the most eye-catching section at first glance, but there is plenty to keep an eye on. The group brings together one of Europe's most reliable tournament teams of recent years, a nation determined to finally make a breakthrough on the world stage, a side preparing to play a World Cup on home soil for the first time, and a team that booked its place in the finals by ending Italy's qualification hopes.
Switzerland, Qatar, Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina all arrive with ambitions of making their mark, although the Swiss begin as clear favourites. La Nati are making their 13th World Cup appearance, while Canada have featured only twice before, and both Qatar and Bosnia are appearing for just the second time.
Even so, qualification is far from a foregone conclusion. Canada continue to build on the momentum generated in recent years, while Bosnia will hope to enjoy one last memorable campaign with Edin Dzeko, one of the greatest players in the nation's history. Qatar, now led by Julen Lopetegui, will be eager to show how much they have progressed since hosting the tournament in 2022.
One thing is certain: Group B has plenty of stories still waiting to be written.

ATLANTA, GA - APRIL 23: Chadwick Tromp #48 of the Atlanta Braves takes the field before the game against the Houston Astros at Truist Park on April 23, 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Matthew Grimes Jr./Atlanta Braves/Getty Images)
The Atlanta Braves have spent much of the 2026 season scrambling to patch together their catching situation as they hold onto a leading position in the National League pennant race.
Injuries and roster turnover have forced the club to rely on several veteran options while waiting for key contributors like Drake Baldwin to return. And that drove another notable change behind the plate last week.

The Braves recently designated Chadwick Tromp for **** ignment as the organization reshaped its catching depth chart. The decision came shortly after Atlanta added veteran catcher Austin Wynns in a transaction with the Athletics, while continuing to wait for Baldwin to recover from an oblique injury.

Reigning champions Argentina begin their World Cup ****** le defence with a favourable draw in Group J, where they are joined by Algeria, Austria and tournament debutants Jordan.
Lionel Messi - who was hit with a late injury scare at the worst possible time - returns for his sixth World Cup and remains the key figure in Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina side, who are among the favourites to triumph in North America this summer and join Italy and Germany as four-time winners.
Austria and Algeria are three places apart in the Fifa rankings and provide an intriguing battle for the second qualifying spot from this group, while minnows Jordan, taking part for the first time, will be hopeful they can spring a surprise or two.
This year’s expanded World Cup of 48 teams means eight of the 12 third place finishers will qualify for the next round, so it really is all to play for.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the biggest ever, in terms of number of teams and players!
With the unprecedented expansion to 48 national teams, the pitches of the United States, Mexico, and Canada will welcome an army of 1,248 athletes.
Amid this sea of players chasing glory, the experience of reaching the top of the world is a privilege reserved for a tiny elite.
Only 22 players called up for the tournament know the weight of the FIFA trophy.
To put that number into perspective, it means that a mere 1.76% of everyone registered for the competition has ever tasted what it is like to be world champions.

Ares Capital (NASDAQ: ARCC) currently pays a $0.48-per-share quarterly dividend. At its recent stock price of around $19, the business development company (BDC) yields more than 10%. That's about 10 times the S&P 500's yield, which currently sits around 1%.
Investors are running out of time to lock in the financial stock's currently sky-high yield. Here's why you might want to act fast.
Will AI create the world's first trillionaire? Our team just released a report on the one little-known company, called an "Indispensable Monopoly" providing the critical technology Nvidia and Intel both need. Continue »
Ares Capital announced its second-quarter dividend payment at the end of April when it reported its first-quarter financial results. The BDC will pay that dividend on June 30th. However, an investor would need to be a shareholder before the market closes on June 15. An investor who buys after that date wouldn't receive their first dividend until the third-quarter payment, which Ares has historically paid on the last day of September.
Waiting to buy also risks locking in a lower yield. The REIT's share price has fallen about 8% this year, pushing its yield to around its highest level in the last five years:

The final list of top performances in Livingston County boys track and field includes two of the greatest hurdling performances in county history, both by different runners from the same school.
Pinckney senior Sam Burtts set a school record with his time of 14.49 seconds in the 110-meter high hurdles prelims at the state Division 2 meet. That ranks him a close second in county history behind Kevin Henry’s 14.48 for Fowlerville in 2004.
In the 300 hurdles, Pinckney sophomore Austin Ouillette ran 38.96 at the state finals, a time that ranks him second in county history. The county mark of 38.84 is a converted hand time run by Pinckney’s Kurt Reichenbach at the 2008 regional in Holt.

Imagine you’re drafting tomorrow in a 12-team PPR league. Who would be the top three bust candidates to fade in the fourth round? The following is based on current average draft positions (ADPs).
I don’t see the fascination with Colston Loveland, whose ADP is overall-42 / TE3. It’s as if everyone got the memo while I was on vacation. Except I don’t take fantasy vacations. So what’s happening?
As I’ve pointed out before, the fantasy market tends to overweight players who finished the previous season strongly. Sure enough, Loveland racked up insanely high numbers in his final four contests, posting a combined 28-378-2 receiving line. How did he do it? By getting 48 targets. Rome Odunze missed two of those games and played a relatively minor role in the other two. Meanwhile, Luther Burden took a firm backseat in three of those games.
Loveland dominated for reasons that cannot be easily replicated. A health Burden and Odunze will play larger roles than we saw late last season. Loveland is a fantastic young talent, and he also cannot be expected to get 12 targets per game or even 10. Presumably, he’ll finish among the top seven TEs, but a near-elite finish that warrants a fourth-round pick? I’m not seeing it.
Terry McLaurin is another risky selection. His overall-45 / WR22 ADP ****** umes the nearly 31-year-old can return to his 2024 form, when he needed 13 touchdowns to finish as the WR16 in points per game. Even with nine TDs that season -- if his receptions and yards had remained the same -- he would have been the WR23. Advancing age has lowered his ceiling to a new low.

Bell Global Equities Fund, managed by Bell **** et Management, released its latest investor update, available for download. March saw heightened volatility due to the Middle East conflict, with the MSCI World ex Australia Index falling 2.5% and the Bell Global Equities Fund (Wholesale class) declining 3.1%. The portfolio’s underweight in Energy was the primary headwind to relative performance, compounded by poor stock selection in Communication Services, Health, and Energy. A tentative ceasefire in early April has helped stabilize sentiment and reverse some March declines. Future market trends depend on the ceasefire’s durability and how ongoing energy supply disruptions affect inflation and growth through 2026. In addition, the ongoing AI disruption narrative is significantly influencing market behavior, causing indiscriminate selling across various sectors. The recent weakness appears to be sentiment-driven rather than fundamental deterioration, thus creating opportunities. In addition, please check the Strategy’s top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its first-quarter 2026 investor letter, Bell Global Equities Fund highlighted stocks such as Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (NASDAQ:ODFL). Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (NASDAQ:ODFL) was 50.44%, and its shares gained 53.36% over the past 52 weeks. Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (NASDAQ:ODFL) has a market capitalization of $50.45 billion.
Bell Global Equities Fund stated the following regarding Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (NASDAQ:ODFL) in its Q1 2026 investor letter:
"Among other exits was the sale of Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (NASDAQ:ODFL), a leading US less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier. While we continue to see good scope for strong earnings growth in the coming years as earnings rebound from depressed levels, a strong rally in the share price and material valuation re-rating have largely priced this in. With the potential for macro disruptions related to the conflict in Iran, we felt the risk-reward profile was starting to skew to the downside and therefore exited the position."
Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. (NASDAQ:ODFL) is not on our list of 40 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds Heading Into 2026. Marcus Ericsson delivered the most dominant drive of his IndyCar Series career, but was left with a front row seat as Josef Newgarden took the checkered flag in a wild race that finished into Monday morning at World Wide Technology Raceway.
It was a night that saw the Swedish native start 12th and quickly accelerate through the field and made his presence felt, leading a race-high 114 laps of 260 laps, which also stands as the most in a single race throughout his entire career. He was out front when the first red flag hit on Lap 137, which lasted for 38 minutes and saw drivers briefly exit their cars.
Despite the time creeping near 11pm ET on a Sunday night and the grandstands getting emptier with every passing minute, the race resumed and saw Ericsson thrown into a fight with Newgarden, the rival that beat him on a controversial one-lap shootout from pit lane in the 2023 Indianapolis 500. With 35 laps to go, it was a showdown that saw Ericsson’s #28 Andretti Global Honda trying to chase down the #2 Team Penske Chevrolet of Newgarden, but was never able to do so, falling 0.6613s behind at the finish.
While it marks Ericsson’s best result of the season, there’s no denying he wanted more out of the night.
“No, it's definitely bittersweet after leading that many laps, having a great car underneath me,” said Ericsson, 35. “We drove all the way to the front, was feeling really good up front.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NEW YORK - JUNE 06: Golden Tempo with Jose Ortiz up, wins the 158th running of the Belmont Stakes with with Commandment and John Velazquez up finishing second at Saratoga Race Course on June 06, 2026 in Saratoga Springs, New York. (Photo by Al Bello/Getty Images)
The thrilling Belmont Stakes win at Saratoga by Golden Tempo has placed the Kentucky Derby champion firmly atop Thoroughbred racing’s most publicized division. The Triple Crown series for three-year-olds garners more attention than other races, but as the sport builds towards the Breeders’ Cup in late October, there will be plenty of action throughout the summer as others look to take a shot at the horse that became the 13th runner to pull off the Derby-Belmont Double
Entering the Belmont Stakes, Golden Tempo had plenty of doubters. His dream worst-to-first trip in the Kentucky Derby at odds of 23-1 was thought to be a fluke that could not be duplicated against a smaller field. As a deep closer, trainer Cherie DeVaux’s darling was considered as too pace dependent to pull off another victory in a race that lacked early speed.
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY - MAY 02: Jockey Jose Ortiz of Golden Tempo celebrates with the Garland of Roses after winning the 152nd running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on May 02, 2026 in Louisville, Kentucky. (Photo by Steph Chambers/Getty Images)
Breaking from his outside post, that was said to be an obstacle by some, jockey Jose Ortiz calmly guided his mount over to the rail for another ground-saving trip in this mile and a quarter journey. Chasing much softer early fractions (23.96 opening quarter, 48.29 half mile) than he did in the Kentucky Derby, this son of Curlin was at the back, but much closer to the leaders in this nine-horse field. Rolling through traffic into the far turn the pace up front was not factor for a horse and jockey that moved as one. Unleashing his powerful closing kick down the lane, the Tempo turned out to be quite Golden as he flexed to the finish a length and a quarter ahead of a hard-trying Commandment. Cherie Devaux became the second female trainer to win the Belmont Stakes (Jena Antonucci 2023 Arcangelo) as she guided Golden Tempo to his third win in five starts this year and fourth victory in six career outings.

NEW YORK (AP) — Victor Wembanyama is not shying away from the spotlight in the NBA Finals, and the San Antonio Spurs would not want it any other way.
Less than 48 hours after missing a shot at the end of Game 2 that would have beaten the New York Knicks and evened the series, the 22-year-old big man from France who is becoming the face of the league said the pressure of the situation does not bother him as the Spurs enter Game 3 facing a 2-0 deficit.
"There's really no reason to overthink it," Wembanyama said Sunday. "This is what I'm built for."
Wembanyama has not been the problem for the Spurs. He led them with 26 points in the series opener and had a Game 2-high 29 points.
Teammate Keldon Johnson's message after Wembanyama's would-be game-winning jumper clanked off the rim and out is, "Shoot it again."

Sarepta Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ:SRPT) is one of the most shorted mid-cap and small-cap stocks to buy now. On May 6, Sarepta Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ:SRPT) delivered impressive first-quarter results as it bounced back to profitability despite facing commercialization challenges with its flagship gene therapy, ELEVIDYS.
Total revenue in the quarter was $730.8 million, a decrease of $14.1 million from $744.9 million delivered in the same quarter last year. The decline was attributed to lower ELEVIDYS sales volume resulting from the updated label, which specifies treatment only for ambulatory patients. The decrease was partially offset by a $253 million increase in collaboration revenue.
Amid a slight revenue decline, Sarepta Therapeutics bounced back to profitability with non–GAAP net income of $385.4 million, or $3.16 a share, compared to a net loss of $332.5 million, or a loss of $3.42 a share, delivered the same quarter last year. Earnings beat ****** ysts’ expectations of $0.99 a share on revenue of $731 million.
The bounce back to profitability was driven by disciplined cost management and a favorable revenue mix. In addition, the company delivered positive cash flow, with cash and investments totaling $748 million. Consequently, it remains well-positioned to fund its pipeline development without tapping the debt market.

Curacao, the tiny Caribbean outpost with a population less than Middlesbrough, have found their way to football’s top table. Away from the greed, the cost and the wars, their anticipated debut has been one of the sparingly few pre-tournament stories that epitomise what the World Cup should represent.
It is a national miracle that they find themselves here but also a regional rarity; they are one of just five nations to ever represent the Caribbean on football’s biggest stage. That now looks to be changing.
The expansion of the World Cup to 48 teams has created new opportunity for international minnows to compete at a level that once looked impossible to reach. Those at the top may feel Fifa have made the tournament too big for their own good, diluting the quality. But there’s an argument for the opposite; with new doors now opened, smaller footballing nations are crucially now seeing a greater justification to invest in the development of the game from the ground up.
One of the confederations that benefited most from the expansion was Concacaf, the governing body for North America, Central America and the Caribbean. Like in Asia and Africa, Concacaf saw its World Cup qualifying berths effectively doubled - from three to six, plus another if one of their nations is successful in the play-offs. This is understood to have more than drawn the ire of Europe, with Uefa’s three extra spots (taking their allocation from 13 to 16) being the same given to Concacaf despite the overwhelming gulf in depth and standards between the confederations. Quality was clearly not the prevailing reason for change - instead, “inclusive” was the key word used by Fifa president Gianni Infantino when explaining the new allotments.
For better or worse of the World Cup on the whole, this has allowed the Caribbean to dream. Previously, pathways to the World Cup were gatekept by North and Central America. The United States and Mexico were near-guaranteed to qualify, leaving just one place to fight over; often Costa Rica or more recently Canada would ***** this. Opportunity was unbelievably limited for ambitious but poorly-resourced teams, but that is no longer the case. Both Curacao and Haiti are competing this year - the first time the Caribbean has ever had two countries representing at a World Cup - two decades on from Trinidad & Tobago’s generation-defining qualification in ‘06. And there will be others in years to come, with this writer delving into how one nation aims to emulate Curacao.

The Boston Red Sox have a decision to make at or around the trade deadline. Do they want to be buyers, or do they want to be sellers? Despite their 27-35 record, which puts them in last place in the American League East division, there is a small belief that Boston could still fight for a playoff bid. And it’s not unreasonable to think they could. The Red Sox are only three and a half games out of the third Wild Card spot with plenty of baseball left.
Either way, there is probably an ***** umption that they have to act by the deadline. On which side of the line is unclear. But either way, some names would be on the table. Outfielder Jarren Duran is one of those names. He’s been in trade rumors since last offseason due to his skill set and contract value. But there are two questions to this topic: will they trade him, and should they?
Due to Duran’s spectacular 2024 season, in which he attained some MVP votes, he still has some value in the eyes of the opposing executives and general managers. However, according to Jeff Passan, the value the Red Sox and Craig Breslow place on him is a far cry from what other teams place on him. And that’s fair. After a standout season where he hit .285 and had 83 extra-base hits, he’s failed to recapture that magic. The hope was that he would bounce back and perform well this year. He’s done decent this year and is good for a starter, but nothing that screams a star player.
Overall, he’s a pretty good player. But the opposing GMs of the league hold him at a lower price tag. In other words, despite his contract, the 29-year-old probably won’t be the main return for a guy like Fernando Tatis Jr. or even Willy Adames.
Duran is probably coming off his best month since 2024, as he hit .261 while hitting nine home runs and walking 11 times. He also hits .277 with runners in scoring position this year, too. But his most valuable ***** et is his speed. He has a sprint speed of 29.1 feet per second, which places him in the 93rd percentile in all of baseball. It’s also shown with his doubles and triples amounts being high up in the MLB ranks. In 2024, he led both categories (48 and 14, respectively). In 2025, he led the American League with 13 triples and also had 41 doubles.
